To mark Dementia Awareness Week 2015, we are delighted to announce that our Architectural Technologist Ben Raybould and consultant and former Managing Director, Keith Brewster have pledged to become Dementia Friends.
The pledge comes as work is firmly underway on The Abbeyfields Society’s project in Bingley which will consist of 47no. 1 and 2 bedroom Extra Care and 30no. Dementia residential apartments with associated common facilities, aimed at older aged people have been carefully designed to create a home from home. The shared facilities include residents’ restaurant and lounge areas, hair and beauty salon, laundry, assisted bathroom and sun lounge. There are also staff offices and service areas. The residents, dependent on their needs, will have access to different levels of care up to 24 hours a day. The scheme will also have its own secure sensory garden area. The Day Centre facility will be open generally to older people within the Bingley area, allowing them to remain for longer in their own homes.
Ben Raybould commented: “The design of the specialist Dementia Care unit at Fernbank Drive has allowed us at Brewster Bye to work with dementia experts and state of the art guidance & technical information. We have been able to apply the benefits of this knowledge to a number of exciting new specialist dementia projects, working with The Abbeyfield Society and other housing & care providers.
We are committed to continually researching and developing our in-house knowledge to allow us to better appreciate the importance of the end user and their needs, as such we are happy to become ‘Friends of Dementia’ to not only learn from others but to offer help where we can.”
Dementia Friends attend a Friends information session to learn about dementia and how they can help to create dementia friendly communities. There are information sessions running across England. Anyone who wants to join Dementia Friends and help create more communities that are dementia friendly can go to www.dementiafriends.org.uk to find their nearest Dementia Friends session.
