Another month has passed at BBA with lots of news to share!

Projects at Planning/Construction stage

Flaxby Hotel – We are continuing to develop the designs and are aiming to star on site early 2014.

St Leonard’s Hotel, York – Since our appointment by Ambiance Hotels we have started the preparation of the tender information.

Beverley Hospital – A planning application consisting of 20 apartments and 33 houses at the site of this disused hospital has been submitted following civil and public consultations.

Lands Lane, Leeds – A planning application is being submitted for the conversion of a retail unit in Leeds into two smaller retail units and 18 apartments for Aviva Investors.

Hendford Drive – A development of 26 homes Firebird Homes in Barkerend, Bradford is currently out to tender.

Rosemount, Bradford – We have been appointed by Firebird Homes to submit a planning application for the development of 14 new homes at next to our Clifton Villas scheme in Bradford.

Fernbank Drive, Bingley – The extra care and dementia care development for Abbeyfield Society has gained planning approval.

Scarborough Road, Seamer – A planning application has been submitted for 30 houses for Yorkshire Coast Homes.

Sevenfields Lane, Sheffield – A public consultation has taken place for a proposed older person’s residential development.

Darfield – Jack Lunn has been appointed as main contractor for this scheme and it is due to start on site in October.

Projects on site

Telford – an extra care scheme for Sanctuary Housing consisting of 86 flats and an ALD unit is currently on site.

Pawson Homes – Block B refurbishment with Dobson Construction for Abbeyfield (Ilkley) Society is nearing completion.

The Beeches Phase 2 – a new build bungalow and glazed link for Abbeyfield (Ilkley) Society is currently on site with Angus James Construction.

Harborough Avenue, Sheffield – Termrim Construction have started work on site for 21 new homes for Pennine 2000/Synergy Housing Solutions Ltd.

Northfield Avenue – Hobson and Porter have been making good progress on site for this development of 24 affordable houses for Chevin Housing.

Knaresborough – Work has started on site on a luxury detached house for a private client.

Ripon Road – 5 houses and 8 flats in Harrogate by Strategic Team Group for Yorkshire Housing is nearing completion.

Completed Projects

Priory Road, Raynville Drive and The Wallbottle, all social housing schemes for Yorkshire Housing have all completed on site.

Armley Grange Mount for Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association has completed its final handover.


The BBA team is changing – we said goodbye to Mark Bourne who after 9 years at Brewster Bye Architects is now moving to new employment while another two new members of staff have joined our ever expanding workforce. Matthew Gill is our Part l Architectural Assistant and Russell Barlow is an Architectural Technologist.

Other news

The official opening for Hanover Point at Stockton-on-Tees took place in early September and the following week Mark Henderson and Ben Raybould headed down to London with ESH, Hanover Housing and Summers Inman for the AJ Retrofit awards where Hanover Point have been shortlisted for an award. We did not win but had a fantastic time and it was wonderful to be nominated for such a prestigious award..

So that’s it – so much is going on at BBA at the moment and we have lots of exciting projects coming up in the near future.
