Cookridge Street is a proposed Student Housing and retail development on the former walkabout bar site, adjacent to the 02 Academy in Leeds City Centre. The scheme involves the demolition of the existing two storey nightclub and replacement with a part six, part eight storey new build development which enhances the existing street scape and continues the massing of the surrounding civic context. The scheme will include two retail units at ground floor, a lettings office and common facilities for the development including lounge, gym, games area and study spaces. The development will consist of 96 well sized self-contained student apartments designed to a high specification. The design carefully responds to the tight urban nature of the site, the adjacent hotel development and wider challenges of designing in a sensitive conservation area.
