The proposal was to create a 29 No. dwelling residential development for older persons, with associated communal gardens and access parking. All dwellings are affordable and for social rent by Pennine Housing 2000. The housing mix consists of 22No. 2B3P Flats and 7No. 1B/2P Flats.
The residential accommodation is located in two blocks. The upper block, faces Ben Lane and provides 21No. Flats. In addition to a small meeting room with balcony used by Pennine Housing. The lower block faces the communal gardens and provides 8No. Flats. Between the two blocks a parking court is provided for resident and visitor cars and bicycles. An array of photovoltaic solar panels provide 10% of the development’s primary energy needs.
The external walls are of red-brick with parapeted gables and contrasting brown brick feature towers. The central entrance areas of both blocks are finished in a contrasting render treatment, which provides a more contemporary feel, its zinc roof finish offering a contrast to the grey tiles used elsewhere.
