The latest addition to their portfolio is the redevelopment of Clifton Villas, Manningham. Set on the edge of Apsley Crescent Conservation area, this scheme presented a number of challenges. Not least replacing ‘Rosemount’ the Victorian Gothic villa which once occupied the site. Together with Indigo Planning Ltd, BBA set about a comprehensive interrogation of Conservation area Assessment and the built context.

Our conclusion was that the more successful buildings here have a distinctly simple rationale that elevates them beyond the merely stylistic. It is these qualities we have used to guide the design: Generosity of adaptable accommodation. Simplicity in form and detailing and judiciousness in the articulation of key elements in the design.
