A redundant primary school at Beeston on the outskirts of Leeds city centre has been converted into a flexible multi-functional centre. Hillside offers facilities ranging from a nursery, a community radio station, café, meeting/events hall, conference rooms, offices and a state of the art ‘Catalyst Centre’ providing a hot-desking facility to local businesses and residents. The project is aimed at providing a focus for the local community and surrounding area. This coordinated approach to the provision of a wide variety of facilities under one roof aims to assist ‘start-up’ businesses within the community. It will also attract complimentary users; acting as a ‘hub’ for both social and commercial interaction.
