The British Waterways development consists of 32,000sqft of high quality office accommodation on four floors. This is above sixty undercroft and external car spaces and conference facilities. The building received a BREEAM 'Excellent' energy efficiency rating; one of only sixteen in the UK at the time. An ashlar stone entrance rotunda with an external steel colonnade is linked to the main body of the building by a fully glazed staircase. The reception area acts as a visual node visible across the River Aire. Office accommodation is located on the first, second, third & fourth floors with the final floor stepped back to provide a balcony for the executive accommodation. Particular sustainable features of the building include the overall design and construction as a ‘heat sink’ with natural ventilation. Further sustainable elements have since been included with the introduction of geothermal heat pumps, which provide an energy and capital efficient heating system.
