Raithwaite Hall is the first 5-star hotel on the North Yorkshire coast. It is a boutique 45-bed hotel set in 85 acres of wooded valleys which open onto the coast north of Whitby. Set within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, the hotel offers a luxurious break destination with sports and spa facilities and a large event room set into the steep sides of the valley. Based around a Georgian and Victorian era country house, the hotel offers terraced views of the landscape in all directions. The bulk of the new building is set into the hillside, and the landscaped gardens are stepped into and over the building through the extensive use of grass roofs and terraces. This highlights the unsullied nature of the valley. The building is powered by biomass boilers using copiced wood from the local national park.
