The HD One will be Huddersfield’s first 4-star hotel and forms part of the wider HD One masterplan around the John Smiths Stadium. The HD One masterplan aims to be the catalyst for a major leisure, entertainment, retail and sporting regeneration scheme around the existing stadium. The proposals are centred around a state of the art open air ski slope and snow sports centre, and also include an adventure golf course, bowling, casino, bingo and a range of A1, A3 and A4 uses.
The proposed hotel is to be operated by Park Inn by Radisson and will be the flagship development for the proposed master-plan. The site is located to the southwest of the site adjacent to the existing site entrance and its existing use is a golf driving range which will be demolished. The site is bordered by the steeply sloping Kilner Bank to the south and overlooks the River Colne to the west. The hotel proposal includes the creation of a ground floor plinth containing the restaurant, bar, meeting and fitness rooms and associated back of house facilities. The proposed hotel includes an additional 5 levels containing 150 bedrooms. The upper levels have a slender L-shaped floor plan orientated to maximise views over the proposed development. A feature corner will be created which due to the building’s elevated position will be immediately visible on approach to the site and will include a double height entrance canopy; inset balconies and high level signage. The architectural style will be contemporary, including feature cladding and curtain walling to reflect the overarching style of the proposed masterplan.
