Madeley Road Development Complete

A £4.2m development of 37 no. dwellings located on Madeley Road in Havercroft, Wakefield, has recently been completed for Yorkshire Housing.

The development contains a mixture of two and three bedroom house types of various sizes and shapes. Each of the dwellings has associated gardens and access parking with additional visitor spaces within the shared surface area.

The dwellings are socially rented by Yorkshire Housing based on an assessment of need and demand in the area for this type of housing. All dwellings are Lifetime Homes compliant, Secure by Design and achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.

The density of the layout has kept within the existing urban grain and sits comfortably within the surrounding area by utilising semi-detached houses and short terraces. The creation of the new road presents a series of corners which we have addressed with cranked and gabled houses. These open up the entry points into the scheme and present a continuous frontage.

Each of the houses utilises the traditional domestic forms of gables and pitched roof but present them in a contemporary way through the use of staggered windows and areas of recessed brick work and cladding panels. The external walls are a mixture of buff/multi brick and an off-white render.

The development seeks and achieves a balance of providing well designed and detailed modern family housing whilst delivering the current HCA Affordable Housing Strategy.
