Located on Bolton Road, approximately 1 mile north of the city centre of Bradford, this development created 46 no. residential dwellings including a mixture of 14 no. semi-detached blocks and 5 no. terraced blocks. The affordable homes are rented by Home Group based on an assessment of need and demand in the area for this type of housing.
This scheme was developed as a “land inclusive” scheme that delivered a turnkey development to the Client, Home Housing. Site acquisition and planning were funded by the development partners Strategic Team Group and Brewster Bye Architects along with the assistance of Bradford City Council. This has shown a superb example of multi-partnership working to deliver affordable housing.
Once again sustainability was of high importance during the design process and therefore the buildings are designed to be long life, durable, low maintenance and energy efficient. They also achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 which was achieved using a ‘Fabric first’ solution which enables the residents to get the benefit of lower fuel bills. This method allows for easier maintenance without the use of photovoltaics or other renewable energy generators whilst reducing the amount of energy consumption of the dwellings.
This desirable development has provided both quality family housing and regeneration to an otherwise neglected area. This scheme has also been shortlisted for an LABC West Yorkshire Building Excellence Award; it is wonderful to see the recognition for high quality housing being recognised within the industry awards.
