250t Crane Marks Significant Step in The Abbeyfield Societies Project

Last month a 250 tonne crane appeared onsite at The Abbeyfield Societies project in Bingley.

The project, which will provide specialist Extra Care and Dementia apartments at Fernbank Drive, Bingley is due for completion in Summer 2016.

Consisting of 47no. 1 and 2 bedroom Extra Care and 30no. Dementia residential flats with associated common facilities, these affordable self-contained flats, aimed at older aged people have been carefully designed to create a home from home. The shared facilities include residents’ restaurant and lounge areas, hair and beauty salon, laundry, assisted bathroom and sun lounge. There are also staff offices and service areas.

The residents, dependent on their needs, will have access to different levels of care up to 24 hours a day. The scheme will also have its own secure sensory garden area. The Day Centre facility will be open generally to older people within the Bingley area, allowing them to remain for longer in their own homes.

Brewster Bye Architects have worked closely with the design team consultants and main contractor to ensure the scheme achieves a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating, a standard set to recognise best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation.

Have a look at some at the progress including a fabulous aerial view from the top of the crane.
