AN INNOVATIVE student accommodation scheme designed by Brewster Bye Architects has been named ‘Best Design Project’ at this year’s Yorkshire Residential Property Awards.
The scheme, known as The Edge, was developed by Iconinc which is part of Parklane Properties and is located on Burley Road close to Leeds city centre. The Edge launched in autumn 2015 and consists of 131 studios and apartments, complete with self-contained kitchens and bathrooms. Each room is furnished to an exceptional standard with pictures of city skylines as well as sporting, literary and business icons adorning the walls.
Services on offer at The Edge include a 24-hour concierge, laundry service, gym with personal trainers, pool table, Xbox consoles, a cinema room, a study room and an outdoor area. Plus, all the development’s residents receive a complimentary breakfast every morning.
Yorkshire’s Residential Property Awards are a sensational celebration of Yorkshire’s property talent. The event, which was hosted by TV presenter Jonnie Irwin from Escape To The Country and A Place In The Sun, also raises tens of thousands of pounds every year for children’s charity Variety.
The award judges praised The Edge’s use of technology and the development’s overall design, which revealed a great deal of thought for the end user. Chris Austin, Managing Director at Brewster Bye Architects, says: “The ethos in the design of The Edge was about pushing the boundaries in terms of style and innovation to create a superb living environment. The whole development is designed around its residents, with practical layouts, high quality furniture and exceptional finishes throughout. Other design highlights include ambient lighting, dynamic storage and flat-screen TVs that face both the bedroom and living areas.
“The result is one of the highest specified student accommodation schemes in the UK which brought a whole new standard of student living to Leeds and we’re delighted the development has won this prestigious award.”
