| The core of the house dates from 1740 with significant extensions added in 1895 to a design by Temple Moore, the mentor of Giles Gilbert Scott. The proposals include creating a tropical garden, a swimming pool and gym, conversion of the stables, construction of a new garage block, construction of two helipads, erecting a substantial tree house within the gardens and constructing a new straw fired power plant to supply the house with electricity. Eight planning applications were submitted of which all were successful without going to appeal and the anonymity of the client was preserved throughout process. Works in the main house involved creating a formal sequence of grand reception rooms on the ground floor. A new grand central staircase leading to the first floor has been extensively remodeled to provide luxury bedroom accommodation. To the ground floor the family area has a much enlarged kitchen, sitting room and children’s play room. The tropical garden, which has been formed by inserting a glazed roof over the central courtyard, acts as a buffer between the formal entertaining and informal family areas. |
