| The commission for a new house at Ferndale is an exciting opportunity for Brewster Bye Architects to create a bespoke 18th Century Country House. The client’s desire is to create a large elegant residence in country side on the outskirts of Leeds. The project involves demolishing an existing property and siting the new buildings within the existing curtilage in order to best negotiate Green belt policies. The architectural language is of a Palladian classism with a northern interpretation is best suited to the most eminent designer from the 18th Century that of John Carr of York. The house fits into a tradition of elegant Gentleman’s residencies being the epitome of high quality craftsmanship without being ostentatious or badly proportioned. Brewster Bye have a sound knowledge of working with classical architecture understanding the use of proportion, orders, and detail both in the use of stonework externally and interior decoration; be it plasterwork, joinery, cabinet making, stonework and chimney pieces. The house is to be a 20,000sqft residence of public and private reception rooms a suite of kitchens from informal dining through to modern bespoke catering kitchens and a swimming pool complex designed as Regency baths. |
